Crafting change with you in mind

How did You get to this point? does it feel like everything and everyone is in your way?

You feel burnt out, disconnected, lost. You should be happy, right? Because others have it worse.

This way of thinking is an ineffective trap people often fall into. We compare and judge ourselves for being behind, single, divorced, overweight, underweight, quiet, loud, broke, you name it! We even shame our feelings for simply existing. It is so difficult to quiet the chatter and invalidation we cause ourselves everyday. This is where therapy can help.

the relationship that needs the most attention is the one with yourself. and You are worth it

Jamie Dunlap
Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor

My approach emphasizes partnership, clear, meaningful goals, and taking action. I believe that a lighthearted, transperant relationship can bring relief in beginning treatment.

Therapy is meant to be a safe space to explore your life, your choices, your wants and needs. it is a space to be seen, without judgement. Having a therapist that feels like the right fit is crucial for this.

I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor with over 10 years of experience in the mental health field. I have worked with hundreds of individuals from diverse backgrounds, socioeconomic statuses, and mental health challenges. I offer individual and couples therapy for people of all genders and sexual orientation, mixed-race couples, first generation immigrants, and blended families alike.

My approach emphasizes partnership, clear and meaningful goals, and taking action. Mastering your relational self is a shared collaboration to increase compassion for yourself, and others, and the ability to accept and take accountability for your ineffective behaviors.

As your therapist, I will offer tools for mental blocks you are facing, encourage you in using these tools, and hold you accountable for the things you want. I incorporate education and strategies for getting what you really want in life, and regaining control of anxiety or panic that get in the way.

In our initial sessions, I will provide ample space for you to share what has been going on in your life and what you are hoping to achieve. We will collaborate to set personalized and objective goals. We will check-in often on these goals and reassess as you move through life and self-growth.

FAQs

do I really need therapy?

This is a very common question. Therapy isn't just for people with major mental health issues. While licensed therapists are trained to handle those more severe challenges, we're also here to help with the everyday struggles that most people face. This can include things like job or relationship dissatisfaction, chronic stress, feeling overwhelmed, or just a general sense of being stuck or unsure about the direction you're heading in life. Therapy can be a space to explore those challenges and find a way forward.

How is therapy different from coaching?

Therapy and coaching serve different purposes. Therapy focuses on mental health and emotional well-being, addressing issues like trauma, anxiety, and depression, often involving working through past experiences for healing and long-term change. Coaching is more future-oriented, helping you set and achieve specific goals, such as career growth or personal development, without delving into mental health or emotional history. Additionally, mental health therapy is typically covered by health insurance, while life coaching often is not. In short, therapy is for deeper healing, while coaching is about achieving specific goals and moving forward.

how much will therapy cost?

Sessions typically range from $75-$140 per session, with insurance often lowering the cost through co-pays. I do offer sliding scale rates in unique situations. For more details on costs and payment options, please refer to the "Insurance and Payment" page on my site.

How long is treatment? how often are sessions?

The length of therapy treatment can vary widely depending on individual needs and goals. The length of treatment will be discussed early on for your unique situation. For some, therapy may last just a few sessions to address a specific issue, while others may engage in therapy for several months or even years to work through more complex challenges or ongoing personal growth.

Short-term therapy, like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), often lasts around 8-12 sessions and is focused on specific problems. Longer-term therapy, such as psychodynamic or relational therapy, can last months or years and tends to explore deeper emotional patterns and relationships.

Ultimately, the duration depends on your personal goals, progress, and the type of therapy you're receiving. Sessions are weekly or bi-weekly. I do not offer monthly sessions unless your goals have been met and you are working towards ending regular therapy sessions.

how do I know what to work on?

Knowing what to work on in psychotherapy often starts with identifying areas in your life where you feel stuck, stressed, or dissatisfied. You might want to explore patterns in relationships, manage anxiety, process difficult emotions, or work on self-esteem. When working with therapists like myself, I will help guide the process by asking questions, offering reflections, and observing themes. It’s also okay if you’re unsure at first—therapy is a space to explore what’s most important to you, even if you're not clear about it yet.
